NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE AGED UNDER 8.
Meet the women who moulded Mozart. A musical from the perspective of his sister, wife and others who shared the life of the musical genius.
Charli Eglington is the composer, Markus Olzinger directs.
Not available. The monkey has only seen two professional reviews, both praising the leads and feeling them under-used.
The problems seem to be with the lyric - over-heavily rhyming, and a book which sometimes backtracks unnecessarily.
Costumes are noted as frivolous and a bit parody of the period. The music sometimes rises to memorable but often seems too experimental for its material.
A sound idea for a show, with a strong cast, but lacking story focus and experience in the writing, seems to be the 2 and 3 star verdicts, summarises the monkey.
Living and wiring in the only German "Mozart City", I was eager to see this one. But the ladies in Mozart's times were not wearing jump suits. Generally speaking the costumes were just bad and the songs were interchangeable. Nothing that really remained in your head. The only ones I could remember were those tunes that were played before the show which contained original Mozart.
And the feminist approach was in the first half that everything done by men (Bishop of Salzburg and Mozart's Dad and even Mozart himself) is either bad or weak. It changed a little bit in the second half with the appearance of Constanze Weber (who was in my opinion the best performer) but only a little.
Overambitious and poorly written.
Only 2 bananas maximum.
